Culp's Hill rises on the southeast side of the Gettysburg battlefield, and this stereograph, issued by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania, around 1927, shows artillery pieces set among its rocky slopes. The hill was the scene of fierce fighting on July 2 and 3, 1863, when Union troops held its wooded heights against Confederate attacks that aimed to roll up the Union line. By the 1920s the battlefield had become a national memorial, with monuments and cannons placed to mark where units stood, and stereo cards like this one were sold to visitors who wanted to see those sites in three dimensions.
