From the rocky summit of Little Round Top, this stereograph looks north across the fields to Cemetery Hill, the Union position that anchored the battle's first day. Little Round Top was the hill that Union troops, including the 20th Maine under Joshua Chamberlain, defended on July 2, 1863, and by the 1920s its slopes were lined with monuments marking regimental positions. Keystone View Company, a Meadville, Pennsylvania firm, produced such cards for home stereoscope viewers, letting armchair visitors see the battlefield in three dimensions.
