This silkscreen poster advertises a Popular Price theater staging of *The Dictator*, a farce by Richard Harding Davis, the journalist and popular writer known for his war reporting and light fiction. The "popular price" label points to the Federal theater Project, the 1935 New Deal program that employed theater workers during the Depression and sold tickets at low cost so working audiences could attend. Its posters, produced through the Works Progress Administration's art program, often used bold flat color and simple lettering, as this one does. The 1936 date places it during the project's most active years.
