The best of friends must part!" runs as the tagline on this 1936 silkscreen poster for the Federal theater Project's production *Goodbye Hollywood!*, a farewell pitched to audiences with a bit of playful sentiment. The Federal theater Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, created to put theater workers back on payrolls during the Great Depression and to bring live plays to communities that rarely saw them. Its posters were often produced by artists working in the WPA's graphic arts units, and the bold flat color of silkscreen printing made them easy to read from a distance. The subject headings tie the show to California and to travel in the 1930s, a period when Hollywood's film industry was reshaping American entertainment.
