Capp Street, in the Mission District, shows the uneven ground the 1906 earthquake left behind, with split pavement and sidewalks sunk out of level. The quake struck early on April 18, 1906, and fires that followed burned much of the city in the days after. H.C. White Co. issued this view as a stereograph, a pair of photographs meant to be seen through a stereoscope for a three-dimensional effect.
