Clotheslines hung with the week's wash give this c1900 New York City view its subject. Monday was the traditional wash day in many working-class households, when laundry was scrubbed by hand and hung out to dry. The print is a photochrom, a color process that the Detroit Photographic Company used to reproduce its views, and its bright, painted-looking tones were part of the appeal for travelers and armchair tourists of the day.
