Woody Crumbo, a Potawatomi artist from Oklahoma, made this color silkscreen of an eagle dancer around 1952, and its registration with the U.S. Copyright Office shows it was issued as a published work. Crumbo drew on Plains and Woodlands dance traditions, and eagle dancers, whose costumes often include real eagle feathers, were a favorite subject of his. The flat shapes, bold outlines, and strong color typical of his style reflect the modern Native American painting movement that flourished in Oklahoma in the mid-20th century.
