This color silkscreen shows a Buffalo dancer, a figure from ceremonial dance traditions in which performers wore bison-related regalia and moved to drumming and song. The print is catalogued under the name Crumbo, most likely Woody Crumbo, a Potawatomi artist from Oklahoma who made paintings and prints of dancers and everyday life in Native communities. Its date of about 1952 places it in a period when screen printing was becoming a practical way for artists to reach wider audiences. The record also notes a U.S. Copyright Office deposit, which shows the design was registered as an original work. Attention to the costume, with its layered clothing and headdress, makes the piece a useful record of dress as well as dance.
