Charles G. Dawes, who served as Vice President under Calvin Coolidge, is the figure at the center of this 1925 photograph taken in Boston on April 18, the day before the anniversary of the Concord Fight. Dawes traveled to Massachusetts for the commemoration of the battles of Lexington and Concord, the opening engagements of the American Revolution in April 1775. Patriots' Day, as the holiday is known in the state, drew crowds and officials each year, and a visiting national officer such as Dawes lent the observance added weight. The print comes from the Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Division, where it is cataloged among 1920s photographic prints.
