The poster announces a production of *Death of a Salesman* staged in Cape May, the Victorian seaside resort at the southern tip of New Jersey, where summer theater drew vacationers in the decades after World War II. Arthur Miller's drama had opened on Broadway in 1949 and won that year's Pulitzer Prize, so a regional staging of it would have been a notable event for the town's audiences. The poster was designed by the painter Joseph Hirsch, whose figurative style suited a play about an aging traveling salesman and his fading dreams. The print's date is uncertain, but the range 1949 to 1960 places it at the height of the play's popularity.
