The Great Coliseum was a temporary wooden hall built in Boston's Back Bay for the World's Peace Jubilee and International Musical Festival of 1872, a summer music festival organized by bandleader Patrick Gilmore. Its vast interior, with a stage for a massive chorus and orchestra, made it one of the largest performance spaces of its day. The festival drew international performers, and Johann Strauss was among the conductors who took the podium there. The building was dismantled after the event, so this view is one of the few lasting records of the structure.
