This glass negative is one of the few in the Bain collection whose title names four men at once: Delbrück, Dernburg, Zeppelin and Coleman. The Bain News Service attached that title to the negative without verifying it, and the record gives no date, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Ferdinand von Zeppelin's airships were the best-known German aviation project of the period, and his name on the caption places the picture among the ballooning and airship images the service collected in the early 1900s. Bain's pictures of this kind were press photographs, made quickly for newspapers, so their captions are a useful starting point but should be checked against other sources.
