This drawing is catalogued under the subject of a drawbridge in Tokyo, a city whose bridges over moats and canals were a common sight in Japanese art. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist known for woodblock prints of women and urban scenes, and places the work in the David Murray Collection at the Library of Congress. The dates don't line up, however: the record gives 1750, Koryūsai is listed as active from 1764 to 1788, and the subject headings point to foreign visitors in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900. Those gaps mean the date should be treated as uncertain.
