A drawbridge over a Tokyo waterway, with foreign visitors crossing it, is the subject this drawing is catalogued under. The attributed artist, Isoda Koryūsai, was a working ukiyo-e painter and printmaker whose career ran from the 1760s to the 1780s, when the city was still called Edo and was a busy center of merchants and townspeople. The record's date of 1750 predates his active years, and its subject dates fall in the later 1800s, so the exact moment depicted is uncertain. Its place in the Library of Congress's David Murray Collection makes it a useful record of how Japan appeared to Western collectors.
