Posed beside a statue titled *Flight*, J.A. Atchison appears in this glass negative dated February 2, 1925, though the record does not say who he was or why he was photographed there. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio active from about 1907 into the 1930s, produced thousands of such portraits and street views of the capital. Its glass negatives capture the everyday look of the city in the 1920s, and a small, dated portrait like this one shows how studio and outdoor photography overlapped in that era.
