The title "Rabboni" is an Aramaic word meaning "my teacher," the phrase Mary Magdalene uses when she recognizes the risen Christ in the Gospel of John, so the statue likely carries a religious or memorial meaning. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that documented American monuments and scenes in the early twentieth century, made this glass negative sometime between about 1910 and 1935, though the title is unverified and the statue's location is not recorded. Streaks and blemishes on the glass reflect natural deterioration of the original coating, a common condition for negatives of this age.
