A pair of names, Geddes & Balfour, and the initials DAR form the title of this glass negative, though the National Photo Company's label for it is unverified. The subject may be a firm, a building, or an event connected to the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C. The company made many thousands of negatives in the capital in the early twentieth century, recording streets, public buildings, and civic life. Glass plates like this one often develop streaks and blemishes as their coatings deteriorate, and this example shows those marks. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
