Two women share the frame in this 1921 glass negative, identified in the record as Miss Marion Irvine and Mme. Hideko Inouye, though those names come from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve. The plate belongs to the National Photo Company Collection, the Washington, D.C., studio known for portraits and news photographs from the early twentieth century. The record notes possible streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating, a reminder of how fragile these glass plates have become. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
