The title pairs the names Geddes & Balfour with the initials DAR, which most likely refers to the Daughters of the American Revolution, the patriotic society founded in Washington, D.C., in 1890. The record credits the glass negative to the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that worked in Washington in the early twentieth century, and dates it to about 1921 based on neighboring negatives, so that date is an estimate. The streaks and blemishes visible on the plate come from the emulsion coating breaking down over time, a common condition in negatives of this age. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
