Paul Revere's engraving shows British warships at anchor in Boston Harbor and soldiers coming ashore at the town's wharves in 1768, when Parliament sent regiments to enforce the Townshend duties and calm unrest over customs enforcement. Revere made the print in 1770, the same year as the Boston Massacre, and it was designed to shape colonial opinion against the troops. Its detailed view of the waterfront and the armed landing party makes it a useful record of how the occupation was seen in the colonies.
