A locomotive and cars sit in the foreground of this view of the Lowell fairground, with the racetrack, tents, and crowds beyond them. The print commemorates the Ninth Annual New England Fair, held in Lowell from September 3 to 6, 1872. Rail lines made it much easier for people from surrounding towns to reach such fairs, which is why the train appears so prominently here. The lithograph was drawn by D. Drummond and printed by Chas. H. Crosby & Co. of Boston, and the record gives its date as 1875.
