Strobridge Lithographing Company, which worked out of Cincinnati and New York, produced this 1900 lithograph for *Old Orchard*, a play of New England life by Marguerite Merington. The piece is a theatrical print, the kind of colorful image that publicized stage productions to passersby and playgoers at the turn of the century. Its pastoral title points to the rural, domestic themes that were popular in American drama of the period, when audiences were drawn to stories of village and farm life. Strobridge's commercial lithography shows how such plays were marketed to a wide national audience.
