Few early maps show the opening months of the Revolution as directly as this London sheet, which traces the routes of colonial forces converging on Boston and the attack on Bunker Hill. The fighting of June 17, 1775, actually took place mostly on nearby Breed's Hill, so the map's label reflects how contemporaries came to name the battle. Published in London by Robert Sayer and John Bennett that same year, it caters to British interest in news from America while the siege of Boston was the central story. Its claim to be "by an American volunteer" is worth noting, since it presents the conflict from a colonial vantage point.
