Unlike the other Pilgrim Tercentenary views on this board, which mostly show the town's landmarks or its crowds, this one centers on a royal scene staged within the pageant. The 1921 pageant was part of the wider commemoration of the Mayflower's arrival in 1620, and organizers used a series of tableaux, drawn from the colony's English roots, to tell the story to large crowds in an open-air setting. Costumed performers representing crowned figures from England's past underscored the Pilgrims' ties to the Crown, a theme that carried an odd edge in a country that had fought a war to break from Britain. The picture is worth a close look for its costumes and the scale of the audience around the stage.
