Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod, is the spot where the Mayflower pilgrims first came ashore in November 1620 before sailing on to Plymouth, and this view ties the place to that anniversary. The 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary marked three centuries since the landing, and towns across New England held parades, exhibitions and visits from ships and visitors to commemorate it. The title points to ships calling at the harbor during those celebrations, a reminder of how the tercentenary drew crowds to the Cape. Its placement under Thanksgiving follows the holiday's roots in the 1620 colonists' harvest feast.
