Few places on the Gettysburg field are as steep or as strategically important as Little Round Top, the rocky hill south of the Union line that anchored the army's left flank. This view, titled for 7:30 P.M. on July 3, 1863, shows the summit bristling with artillery in the last light of the day when Pickett's charge had already failed. Edwin Forbes, a battlefield artist who sketched for *Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper*, returned to his wartime studies in the decades after the war, and the catalog's date range reflects that later work. Its subject makes it a useful record of how the hill looked when the fighting was over.
