This photochrom print shows the Thames at Richmond, a town on the river's upper reaches in the London suburbs that has drawn visitors and painters for centuries for its broad views over the water. The image was made in the 1890s by the Swiss photochrom process, which turned a photographic negative into a color print using a series of lithographic stones. The Detroit Publishing Co. issued it in the United States, and it appears as print no. 1515 in its 1905 catalog of English views, one of many scenes it sold to American buyers.
