The Ballard house on Franklin Street in Richmond appears in this wet collodion glass stereograph from 1865, the year Confederate forces abandoned the city and Union troops took control. David B. Woodbury, who died in 1866, made the negative, and its sleeve carries only a tentative caption, "Richmond Va" with a question mark. The title comes from later Civil War caption books, so the exact location and the Ballard family's connection to the house remain less certain than the image itself.
