Here Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president, stands in half-length profile with the Statue of Liberty rising behind him. The print is a color photomechanical reproduction dated around April 1919, when Wilson was in Europe working on the postwar peace settlement and promoting the League of Nations. Color printing of this kind was still uncommon, so the image shows how a political figure was presented to the public at the time. Placing him before the statue links his internationalist message to the ideals of liberty the monument represented.
