Taken from above, this 1933 print shows the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., while a new west wing was going up to house its Rare Book Collection. The bird's-eye angle lets you see the building's footprint and the work site around it in one view, something ground-level photographs of the period rarely captured. Construction photographs like this one were often made to document progress on federal buildings, so the print also serves as a record of how the library's campus was being expanded in the early 1930s.
