From the Mount of Olives, the eastern ridge that overlooks the Old City, this 1919 stereograph looks across the Kidron valley toward Jerusalem's walls, rooftops, and the Orthodox churches its catalog entry names. The view dates from the years after British forces took the city in December 1917, when Jerusalem was moving into a new period of British administration. The Keystone View Company, a Pennsylvania firm that sold stereo cards to home viewers, issued the card to be seen through a stereoscope, which gave the domes and stone buildings a sense of depth that a flat print could not.
