This drawing stands apart from the other sheets here because its record names a drawbridge in Tokyo and links the scene to foreign visitors in the later nineteenth century. The artist is listed as Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period master active from the 1760s to the 1780s and best known for woodblock prints of courtesans, actors and city life. The catalog date of 1750 predates his working years, and the subject dates point later, so the record is unclear about when this sheet was made. Those mismatched dates are worth keeping in mind when reading its context.
