Caldeno Falls is a small cascade tucked into the hillsides of the Delaware Water Gap, the deep notch the Delaware River cuts through the Appalachian ridges along the Pennsylvania and New Jersey border. This postcard captures the kind of scenic stop that drew visitors to the gap in the early twentieth century, when rail lines and resort hotels brought tourists into the region to hike, picnic and photograph its waterfalls and cliffs. Postcards like this one were sold widely as souvenirs, so the view often reflects what early visitors wanted to remember and share. Look closely at the rocky ledges and foliage, which show how the landscape was framed for travelers of that era.
