Printed in 1907, this poster advertises *Gay New York*, billed as a "real comedy with music" and "the biggest success of the year," and its caption, "The hand out brigade," hints at the comic tone the show promised. The Cincinnati and New York firm Russell-Morgan Print produced it as a color lithograph, the standard method for theatrical posters of the period, when color stone and later zinc plates let printers make bright, eye-catching bills for touring and Broadway productions. Posters like this were pasted on city walls and billboards to pull in passersby, so the lively color and bold lettering were meant to be read at a distance.
