Joseph Hart and Carrie DeMar top this 1899 color lithograph, which advertises a touring company fresh from Weber & Fields Music Hall in New York City. Run by the comedians Joe Weber and Lew Fields, the Broadway house was known for sharp parody and lively musical burlesque, so a show arriving from there carried real prestige. The poster was printed by the Courier Litho. Co. of Buffalo, New York, and its billing of performers and chorus girls shows how vaudeville companies promoted their stars to audiences in the late 1800s.
