Sophia Loebinger is shown speaking to a crowd in front of New York's City Hall, the seat of city government at the edge of Lower Manhattan. The glass negative comes from the Bain News Service, a photo agency that documented street life and public events, and it is dated October 28, 1908, a period when suffrage supporters held frequent open-air rallies across the city. Speakers often addressed crowds on streets and in public squares to reach people who could not attend indoor meetings. The title came from agency records and has not been independently verified.
