This glass negative shows a woman identified in its caption as Mrs. S. Loebinger, speaking from a platform in New York. The Bain News Service, which made the photograph, labeled it with information it had not independently verified, so the speaker's name is worth treating with some caution. The date recorded, October 28, 1908, falls just days before that year's presidential election, when suffrage supporters in New York were holding open-air meetings to press their cause. Pictures like this one document the street-corner oratory that carried the movement for women's voting rights in the years before New York's 1917 suffrage victory.
