Crawford Notch, a narrow mountain pass in New Hampshire's White Mountains, is the focus here, seen from Willey Station, the railroad stop named for the Willey family. Their house stood nearby until a landslide in August 1826 killed the family and their hired hands, and the rail line later made the notch a draw for summer travelers. This glass negative, roughly 14 by 17 inches, comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose large catalog documented American scenery and landmarks around 1900.
