Register Rock, on the old Emigrant Road in the Goose Creek Mountains, was a landmark where travelers on the overland trails often inscribed their names and dates, turning the stone into a kind of trail register. This 1861 stereograph card is part of a series titled Idaho Scenery, and it records a place that many emigrants passed through before the transcontinental railroad changed western travel. Stereo cards like this were sold for use in a stereoscope, so the scene was meant to appear three-dimensional. The catalog's subject headings refer to Atlanta, Georgia, during the Civil War, which does not match the title, so the location is best taken from the title.
