The title places this card at a ford over Plutos Creek near Geyser Springs in Sonoma County, on the road to one of California's best-known hot spring resorts. In 1880, stagecoaches and wagons carried visitors north from Santa Rosa toward the geysers, and streams like this one had to be forded along the way. The card, numbered 19, was registered for copyright by C. L. Wasson and photographed by Andrew Price. Stereoviews such as this were meant for a hand viewer, which gave parlor audiences a sense of depth in scenes of rural travel.
