Fremont, Nebraska, in 1916 was the seat of Dodge County and a market town on the Platte River, where farm trade and the railroads shaped daily life. Wartime demand in Europe had pushed grain and livestock prices up, and many Nebraska farmers were looking at gasoline tractors as a way to replace teams of horses and cover more ground. A tractor show in a town like Fremont brought implement dealers, farmers, and their families together to compare machines and see them run in the field. Fremont also had its own schools and churches, and the Fremont Normal School drew students from across the region to train as teachers. For residents, the show would have been a sign that the countryside around them was changing quickly.
