What sets this poster apart is its venue listing: it advertises *Enter Madam* at two California houses, La Cadena and Mt. Vernon, rather than a single theater. It was printed in 1936, when the Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, was putting unemployed actors, directors and stage crews back to work across the country. The project staged plays in community theaters and other local venues, often at low ticket prices, so posters like this one were a practical way to draw audiences. Its silkscreen color reflects the inexpensive, hand-pulled method the WPA poster units used to produce many thousands of designs.
