The National Photo Company's title for this view, "Jerusalem Temple," comes from information the firm wrote on the negative sleeve, and the Library of Congress notes that it has not been independently verified. The exposure is dated June 5, 1923, when the Washington, D.C., firm sent photographers across American cities to document streets and buildings for publishers and the public. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when judging the detail of the scene.
