The cottage pictured belonged to Bishop Daniel Sylvester Tuttle, who led the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri and later served as Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. It stands at Wequetonsing, a summer colony on Little Traverse Bay near Harbor Springs, Michigan, where church families built seasonal cottages to escape the heat of the cities. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial photographic firm active in the early 1900s, made this glass negative around 1900 to 1905, documenting resort life and well-to-do summer homes across the Midwest and beyond.
