The line across the top of this 1915 poster is a direct appeal: Australia has promised Britain 50,000 more men, and the reader is asked to help keep that pledge. Voluntary enlistment was the main way Australia raised troops early in the war, so posters like this one were a key recruiting tool. The kangaroo, a familiar national emblem, pairs with the soldier to link the call to enlist with Australian identity. The color lithograph is credited to Hector Vega Drouet.
