This photochrom shows the cathedral at Konstanz, a city on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) in Baden, with the column of the Virgin Mary standing in front of it. The title's "Mary Constance" is a catalog error that merges the Marian column with the city's German name. The print was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold these hand-colored-look photochrom views of German towns and landscapes in the 1890s and early 1900s. Its saturated colors were a selling point of the process, and today the print also records how the old town looked before the twentieth century.
