Grand Avenue ran through the heart of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, a commercial corridor of shops, offices, and streetcar traffic in the early 1900s. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative dates from roughly 1900 to 1910, a period when the city was growing quickly as a rail and trade center. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made views of American towns and landscapes for sale as prints, postcards, and albums, produced it. The negative reached the collection as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, so it survives as an original glass plate rather than a later copy.
