Eventide England" shows the English countryside in the soft light of dusk, a quieter subject than the cathedrals and town squares that filled most photochrom catalogues. The print appears in the Detroit Publishing Company's catalog J of 1905, where it is numbered 11210 among the company's English views. Photochrom was a Swiss process that built a color image from several printing stones, and the Detroit firm sold such views to American buyers who wanted color scenes of distant places before ordinary color photography existed. The print likely dates from the 1890s.
