Titled simply *Recovered*, this color lithograph turns from the fighting to its aftermath, a subject that drew publishers in the years after the Civil War. It was issued around 1869, roughly four years after Appomattox, when many families were still coping with the dead and missing. Lithographs like this were printed in quantity and sold cheaply, so they reached homes that could not afford paintings. The Library of Congress files it under Civil War casualties, a category that shows how the conflict's human cost remained part of public memory.
