Ink and graphite on paper, this section drawing shows the north wing of the Capitol looking west, as it was being rebuilt. British forces had burned the building in August 1814, and Benjamin Henry Latrobe, then surveyor of public buildings, was charged with restoring it. The north wing housed the Senate chamber, so the sheet records the structure that would once again hold that body. Part of Latrobe's own archive at the Library of Congress, the drawing carries the number 352 in its inscription.
